When we first had the idea to create a signature candle well over three years ago, we knew without a doubt we wanted to work with P.F. Candle Co. We’d been longtime fans of (okay, obsessed with) their Teakwood & Tobacco scent, and love their artisan approach to candle making. Now we’re having a major pinch-me moment — because our dream is finally a reality.

Created by husband-wife duo Kristen Pumphrey and Thomas Neuberger, P.F.’s candles are hand-poured using only the best ingredients (like clean-burning, 100% domestically grown soy wax and phthalate-free fragrance oils).

For our signature scent, we wanted to invoke a spirit of adventure and travel, encompassing both the journey and the destination. To start, we gave Kristen and Jade (who heads up P.F.’s development) some inspiration — think forest-covered mountains, traveling off the beaten path, long dinners in Buenos Aires, nights under the stars. From there, they worked their magic.

Each candle was hand-poured using pitchers (P.F.’s signature pouring method) into individual handcrafted vessels, which were specially made for The Citizenry by our partners, Arran Street East, in Dublin. After the wax was poured into each vessel, the wicks were hand-placed and the candles were left to cure overnight. From start to finish, every part of the candle has a true handcrafted element.

Oh, and the scent? After two months of testing and refining, we landed on absolute perfection, combining notes of leather, oak, and malbec. It’s spicy, woodsy, exotic, cozy – basically, everything a candle should be. 

And we hope it fills your home with the same sense of adventure and warmth as it does ours.
